The Platteville Police Department has launched an investigation into the death of James Thomas, 22, a University of Wisconsin-Platteville student who died Sunday night following a pickup-bicycle collision on Business 151.

There are no charges against Tyler P. Sullivan, 19, driver of the pickup, as of Sept. 15, but according to Sgt. Josh Grabandt, the Platteville Police Department is collecting and processing evidence to send to the Grant County district attorney to review. The evidence includes a blood draw on Sullivan to be reviewed by the State Lab of Hygiene.

“We are doing our best to do a complete and thorough investigation to figure out what happened,” Grabandt said.

Grabandt, who is leading the investigation, said it should be “wrapped up in the next couple days.”

“It is a tragic event,” Grabandt said. “We are working with both families to help them through the situation.”
