Thomas Harris’ “Red Dragon” follows former FBI profiler Will Graham as he gets dragged out of his retirement to hunt down a serial killer known as the Tooth Fairy.
Graham retired from being a psychological profile after catching notorious serial killer and cannibal, Hannibal Lector. The arrest left Graham scarred, both physically and emotionally, and a large chunk of the conflict in this book centers around Graham’s hesitation to put himself back in the fray.
I really enjoyed this book. Harris does a great job of portraying Graham’s PTSD and many of the characters are memorable. This book was very difficult to put down when reading, especially near the second half. “Red Dragon” is a tense, horrific thriller and I am looking forward to reading some of Harris’ other works surrounding the characters introduced in this book. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in mystery novels, or anyone who is a fan of the “Silence of the Lambs” movie or “Hannibal” television series.
