Becky Yang Artist Statement:
“Additionally outside of my work career, I create art that focuses on mental health awareness and wellness by varying my medium, styles and techniques. As a person who struggles with mental health, I want others to know to know they are not alone and that it is okay to talk about mental health. I use food objects as the subject of most of my work because they are apart of our daily life and is something that is easily recognizable. My work gives them a personality which adds quirkiness and a bit of playfulness for the viewer while straying away from naturalism. The intent of these works is to make the viewer feel without focusing too much on its meaning. It is intended to make the viewer feel relaxed, intrigued or understood. My works are indirect because it is meant to make others feel recognized. It is a moment away from reality that allows them to let loose, be themselves feel refreshed and recognize their own emotions.”
