Five Broken Blades was written by Mai Corland and published in May 2024. This book is a high fantasy book that blew up on TikTok for a small time because of the interesting cover and beautiful side art. The book is underrated in most cases because people on social media focused more on the aesthetics of the book instead of the content.
The book follows a band of six characters, who are not really heroes or villains, that are going on a quest to kill the king of the land that is seen as a god and is rumored to be unkillable. Each of the crew is hired for the job because of their different skills, secret relationships, and hidden motives for wanting the king dead. Over the course of the book, the book changes point of view and the readers see and understand different parts of the world as the crew travels across the land. While the narrative focus is on the plot to the kill the king, there are undercurrents of romance between characters.
This book is similar to a fun fantasy Dungeons and Dragons campaign with skilled characters in unique situations that are very human and well loved.
Rating: 10/10 book, I would strongly recommend it.
