As we enter the spooky season, horror TV shows and movies are back on the rise. These movies and shows offer monsters, murders and other terrifying crimes. However, if people aren’t interested in monsters and want something to binge-watch for a couple of days, “Dexter” seasons 1 and 2 are very good options.
The show is based on a series of novels by Jeff Lindsay, in which we follow a serial killer named Dexter Morgan who hunts down people who escaped justice because of corruption or mistrials. Unfortunately, being a serial killer doesn’t pay the bills. During the day, Dexter works as a forensic technician specializing in blood splatters for the Miami Metro Police Department. There are high stakes and drama as Dexter hunts down his next kill, but there are also petty office issues that Dexter has to deal with. To add to that, to maintain his cover as a “normal” person, Dexter is dating someone and acting as a pseudo-father figure to a few kids, which leads to some wacky interactions.
Season 1 follows Dexter as he is teased and taunted by a new serial killer called the Ice-Truck Killer who seems to know who Dexter is and challenges him to check him before he kills again. As things seem to resolve themselves, season 2 opens with all of Dexter’s victims being found, leaving our beloved serial killer playing check-up as both his police department and the FBI try and hunt him down.
One of the few downsides of “Dexter” is that it was shot in the early 2000s, meaning there is inappropriate language and jokes that can be a bit hard to sit through. However, it isn’t enough to impact the plot or storytelling, which is nice.
Overall, a 7.5 out of 10.
