“Hunger Games” was written by Suzanne Collins and was released in 2008. It helped kick off the dystopian craze of the early 2010s. This book led to movies based on the books and a few spin-off books and movies.
The book follows a young Katniss Everdeen as she volunteers to fight in a battle royale to the death that is hosted every year against other children in the country of Panem. She is sent to the Capital to train and gain favor with the wealthy class. She is not doing this alone because she was sent with Peta, her schoolmate. Katniss does not know who to trust but she needs to survive and go back to her family.
This is a classic young adult book that is having a renaissance, and it is something that everyone can enjoy, regardless of age. There is romance. There is adventure. It is a really fun read.
