Written by Georgia Summers, “The City of Stardust” is a mysterious urban fantasy novel that came out Jan. 30, 2024. It is a standalone novel that delves into a magical underworld full of gods, monsters and power-hungry scholars. This novel follows the main character, Violet Everly, through the normal world and this magical underworld as a dangerous deadline closes in on her.
For ages, the Everly family has been tormented by losing their most gifted and talented members to an unageing woman, who never forgets a debt. Violet Everly, left on her uncle’s doorstep, the last of the Everly line, is determined to break this curse. With ten years to find her mother and repay this debt, Violet finds herself traveling to the edge of the world in an attempt to find her mother and the key to the city of Stardust. Dunked into a mysterious world that her mother lived in, Violet struggles with the dangers and romances that this new world offers her.
Georgia Summers’ unique choices made in this book help hold a reader’s interest. This is an excellent urban fantasy mystery novel because Summers’ decision to include all of the legends and childhood tales Violet grew up hearing about helps the reader get a feel for the danger of the world she searches for and the risks she takes to pay this debt. This is an excellent adult novel and a good read for those who enjoy urban fantasy mysteries with a little bit of slow burn.
