Since Shawn Mendes is releasing new music and planning a new album called “Shawn” on Nov. 15, it was time to review his older music, especially the other album based on his namesake. In 2018, Mendes released an album called “Shawn Mendes” with hit songs like “In My Blood”, “Lost in Japan” and “Señorita”. This album was a success when it first came out, even getting on the US Billboard 200. He was one of the youngest artists that year to reach such an accomplishment.
His music on the album is tender, sad and sentimental pop music with some folk undertones as he plays guitar in his pieces. He focuses on missing love in his life either through a long-distance relationship spanning time zones like “Lost in Japan”, a toxic relationship like in “Perfectly Wrong” or a breakup like in “In My Blood”. It is a beautiful album that talks about the need for love and its loss for more than one reason, with many different artists. This becomes a throughline in his next album and his music as well. It is very exciting to relisten to the album, and it is exciting to see what he will come out with next month.
