Kat Stayman-London was a political strategist and writer before becoming a novelist. Stayman-London’s most recent novel, “Fang Fiction,” released in late 2024, is a funny take on vampires as well as a love letter to fandom culture.
Tess Rosenbloom is a grad school dropout after being sexually assaulted by one of her peers. She now works as a night manager of a high-end Brooklyn hotel trying to figure out what to do next. The only thing that comforts her is her favorite book series following a cast of fictional vampires trapped on an island. At least, they were until one of the vampires comes to her hotel asking for her help. Now Tess must go to the vampire island and help the vampires on the island get free, while her ex-friend Joni tries to figure out how the vampire, Octavia, ended up off the island.
The plot isn’t the strongest, and at moments it feels a little convenient or forced. However, it is a lighter read especially if the reader has been part of a fandom culture or really likes vampire media. The author wrote this as a love letter to fandoms, and because of that, the world feels very fleshed out, and all the media of the world seem to be ripped out of the modern world we live in.
