Boomerang is a sister channel to Cartoon Network that often does reruns of older shows, the most famous being Scooby Doo. Boomerang wanted to release another version of Scooby Doo, following the success of “Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated” on Cartoon Network. However, instead of it showing up on Boomerang, it ended up on Cartoon Network before it got transferred back to Boomerang due to low ratings. This moving around and low ratings led “Be Cool, Scooby Doo” to get cancelled after two seasons.
This series wanted to be more comedic than “Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated” and tried to employ some of the original character traits from the original show by having them travel around the country and solve mysteries. However, they add some fun twists like Fred’s high tech Mystery Machine, Velma’s fear of water or Daphne’s new interests each episode. This series marks the joining of Kate Micucci as Velma because Mindy Cohn stepped back.
This show had mixed reviews went it came out with people not liking the animation style or the changes to the characters. However, if people can understand its bit and look past the animation style, the mysteries are good and complex. And while the show is episodic, it does build to up to a fun and interesting conclusion.
