Chappell Roan is considered one of the most popular rising pop stars to emerge in 2024. She gained a cult following over the summer through TikTok, as well as by performing alongside Olivia Rodrigo and at Coachella. Roan began producing and working on music in 2015, but in 2016, she chose the stage name Chappell Roan in honor of her grandfather.
“The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” is her debut album and has garnered significant attention. This pop album is full of bold and emotional songs, often exploring themes of heartbreak and sexual identity. “Feminiomenon,” a song about being a queer woman, went viral on TikTok, appearing in countless edits and sing-along videos. However, “Hot to Go!” and “Pink Pony Club” are two of her most popular songs, with “Pink Pony Club” being described as “the ‘Y.M.C.A.’ but gayer.” This led to her performing the song at the Grammys to a cheering crowd.
This album is an incredible debut, centered around a strong and unapologetically feminine message. The music blends folk and pop, creating a fun, lighthearted and playful energy that has contributed to Roan’s cult following. Her unique costumes and theatrical showmanship also draw people in, making her performances unforgettable.
