Scooby-Doo has long been a popular show with fun and amazing characters, but it wasn’t until the 90s that Hanna-Barbera started making movies. “Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island,” released in 1998, was the first direct-to-video movie in the Scooby-Doo franchise. It immediately did very well, spawning a direct-to-video movie series following this version of the gang.
The movie starts with the gang split up and working regular jobs after retiring from the mystery-solving business. The most successful of the gang is Daphne, who has a TV show with Fred as her cameraman. She decides to hunt down a real ghost for her next assignment, so Fred invites the gang to join them as they travel across the country to find ghosts or other monsters. Their hunt leads them to New Orleans, LA, where there is an island haunted by the ghost of Morgan Moonscar, a pirate who once lived on the island. The gang arrives not believing the story at first, but soon a series of strange events occur, leaving them with a mystery to solve.
This movie is a great bridge connecting the older Scooby-Doo shows to the modern era that Scooby-Doo fans live in now, with updated technology and character changes that make them more interesting. It also helps fans understand what happened to the gang after they graduated high school and why they were still solving mysteries in their 20s. The movie also features an amazing mystery and music that helps build the world they are living in.
