At the turn of the century, Hanna-Barbera wanted to try something new and decided to create a live-action “Scooby-Doo” movie. With the help of Mike Myers and James Gunn, the project was given the green light and hit theaters in June 2002.
The movie starts with the gang getting into a fight and going their separate ways, leading to two years without contact. Eventually, each member receives an invitation to Spooky Island, where they reunite to solve a mysterious demonic curse. After a series of conflicts and strange events, the gang comes back together to battle the dark forces lurking on the island.
This film is a fun and campy take on Scooby-Doo and the gang, especially with the characters now portrayed as young adults. There are several cleverly placed adult jokes that go over younger kids’ heads, making it enjoyable for both children and adults. The music and costumes are also well done, helping to bring the early 2000s setting to life. Plus, the movie features several fun and exciting characters, making it well worth a watch or rewatch.
