Batman and Robin are the iconic dynamic duo. However, Batman’s young sidekick is rarely seen in movies. There are many reasons for this—some argue that casting a child actor for such an intense role is difficult, while others believe writers prefer to explore Batman as a lone hero. Both of these challenges are evident in “Batman & Robin,” which was released in 1997.
This film is the fourth and final installment in the Tim Burton Batman Universe, even though it is the only movie in the series without Tim Burton’s involvement. Over the past few films, audiences were introduced to several of Batman’s villains and allies, including Robin. In the previous movie, Batman and Robin teamed up for the first time, and now they are fighting crime together regularly. This time, they face off against Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy and Bane, who are determined to destroy Gotham.
Watching this movie decades later is quite the experience. It is incredibly campy, with over-the-top costumes and even wilder dialogue. However, the plot leaves much to be desired—there are too many characters, and their motivations often don’t make much sense.
