The annual Low Brass Choir concert, “Tubaween,” was held Sunday, Oct. 29, in the Brodbeck Concert Hall.
The Low Brass Choir, dressed in a range of costumes and played themes from pop culture. The band is composed of 15 members, playing trombone, tuba or euphonium. Most of the pieces were arranged by Dr. Rowland or Platteville students.
“I think it was great. Tubaween is always a blast and super fun and this one was an enormous success. It is fun every year,” Director Dr. Daniel Rowland said.
The band played popular songs like “The Price is Right” theme, and the song “Peaches” from the 2023 Super Mario Brothers movie. A duet was featured in the song “Ghost Choir,” between a trombone and euphonium.
The concert featured a brief intermission, where the band returned dressed as Barbies and Kens to perform “I’m Just Ken” from the “Barbie” movie. The piece was arranged to feature the euphoniums, and a PSA was played before the performance to warn the audience of the dangers of playing the Euphonium. Additional lyrics to support euphonium players were also presented on screen.
With both the performers and the audience in costume, this concert was a refreshing reminder that music can be entertaining and fun for both the audience and performers.
