Ryan Wesley Routh has been charged with two federal counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number after his attempted assassination of Donald Trump, according to NBC News. This attempt took place on Sept. 15 at the Trump International Golf Club in Florida, about two months after another attempt on Trump’s life. His court hearing will be held on Sept. 23, 2024, and more information will surface over the course of his trial, unlike the July assassination attempt.
Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, injuring Trump and two others, and killing one. Crooks was stationed on a roof, which was not communicated to the Secret Service in time to stop the shooting. Instead, it was communicated to the local police, who sent a deputy to investigate it. However, the Secret Service sniper did shoot and kill Crooks just after he started shooting, according to CBS News, neutralizing the threat before he harmed more people.
There has been no clear motive yet for either assassination attempt, but FBI and State Police forces are looking into it. However, Trump blames the “rhetoric” by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamla Harris saying, “Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at, when I am the one who is going to save the country, and they are the ones that are destroying the country — both from the inside and out.”
Both President Biden and VP Harris have publicly condemned the assassination as well as political violence. In fact, President Biden has been helping increase security on all candidates running for President and Vice President and trying to increase the Secret Service budget, so everyone is safe and no one else gets injured.
