The 100th Homecoming has come and gone, and here are some of the highlights.
On Sunday, the campus started by participating in Homecoming Volleyball in the Pioneer Activity Center. There was a lot of cheering and Pioneer Pride. The winner was Nick Smies’ team.
Tuesday was Banner and Trivia Night at the Markee, and the Pioneers showed up excitedly. Tau Kappa Epsilon & Women’s Rugby won the Banner Ceremony with a Pete’s Mixtape of a 100 years of music Banner. Sigma Pi & Women’s Club Volleyball then won the trivia competition because of their knowledge of Platteville History and Taylor Swift.
Wednesday had UW-Platteville’s dirtiest tradition, with the Muddy Tug-of-War in Memorial Park. Everyone was ready to get muddy to win, and Alpha Gamma Rho & Sigma Alpha won in the end. Students and staff also voted for the best Decorated Door which was the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ door.
Everything led up to Friday, at the Yell Night Volleyball Game, where Pioneers found out who won the Homecoming Royalty and had their last chance to win Homecoming Points. The match was all five sets and was a tense watch, but Platteville won at the end. Sigma Pi & Women’s Club Volleyball won Yell Night and Madison Ahren of Wilgus and Megan Zaphel of Pickard were crowned as Homecoming Royalty.
Pioneer got up early for the Parade in which Tau Kappa Epsilon & Women’s Rugby had the best float, and people got excited to tailgate for the Homecoming football game. The UW-Platteville Football team has once again won and are currently at 5-0.
