Famous actor Tony Todd died on Nov. 6, 2024, at the age of 69. The cause of death is not known, and fans have been mourning the famous actor for the past couple of days.
Todd was born on Dec. 4, 1954, in Washington D.C. to Evetta Lyon Gaither. Not much is known about his personal life, except he has a brother, Isaiah Lyons. Todd was married and had two children.
Todd appeared in more than 100 theatrical and television films. He got his start in dramas before becoming the horror icon in which he was famous for with roles in “Night of the Living Dead,” “Candyman” and “Final Destination.” But he did more than horror, showing up in TV shows like “The X-Files” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation” as well as lending his voice to cartoon shows like “Transformers: Prime” and “Young Justice.” He also helped record an audio drama of “Dracula” in 2016 and was Venom in “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” video game, which came out in 2023.
Todd has done an amazing amount of work, and he told the New York Times the following in 2020: “I didn’t get my master’s saying, ‘I want to be a horror film star.’ I just wanted to be a good actor,” Todd said, “Horror fans are the most ferocious fan base there is. That allows for a lot of personal appearances and celebrating a genre that’s sort of kicked to the side but also passionately adored.”
Some of his last work will be coming out soon with a videogame called “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” and a movie called “Final Destination: Bloodlines”. While Todd never won awards for his work, he was well-loved and will be dearly missed by family, friends and fans alike.
