Abdur Rahman, 64, is a Wisconsin resident who went missing on Feb. 25 after being separated from his hiking tour group while on vacation in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Rahman was on vacation with his extended family when they decided to go hiking through a dense tropical rainforest. After taking photos on a side trail at a lookout spot, most of the family headed back to the main trail, leaving Rahman behind.
According to the Office of Emergency Management, six rescue groups were sent out to try and find Rahman. By the third day, both dogs and drones had been deployed in the search.
Puerto Rican officials were able to locate Rahman after three days and transported him to a hospital for treatment. Rahman’s family thanked everyone involved in the search group, saying they’re grateful he was able to be found alive and with no serious injuries.
Officials warn tourists hiking in Puerto Rico to stay on the trails, as often, missing hikers are not found alive. Last year, a U.S. tourist died after authorities said he fell off a cliff after leaving a designated hiking area.
