Hello and welcome back readers!
I hope all of you have enjoyed your summer and are having an easy time transitioning back into the school year. I, for one, am beyond excited to begin my third year with both the Exponent and UW-Platteville.
I have some announcements for the current state of the Exponent this upcoming semester; the first being we have moved our office! We are no longer operating out of 428 Warner Hall, and our new stomping ground is 039 Pioneer Tower.
Our business meetings are still being held every Monday at 6 p.m. in our office, and our production night begins at 4 p.m. on Tuesday nights. Additionally, we are accepting applications for our Circulation Manager position. For those who are interested, please feel free to reach out to me to schedule a meeting time, or feel free to stop by our office during a business meeting or production night.
This year, our satirical news insert, the Antagonist, will be released on Halloween, so make sure to look out for that. We have some great ideas this year that we cannot wait to share.
Our other semesterly insert, the Raven Revived, will be released on Dec. 5. Any student or community member is welcome to submit artwork, poetry, short stories or any other creative work for publication.
As I wrap this up, I would like to thank my fellow Exponent staff for their hard work and dedication this summer as they prepare for the launch of this year’s newspaper.
Additionally, I would like to thank Dr. David Gillota for resuming his position of advisor for the Exponent this year. Thank you, David, for keeping your office open to us as we continue to bug you throughout the year.
I would like to give Sara Koeller a big thank-you as well. Without you, there is not a single possibility the Exponent would be able to function as smoothly as it does, if at all. You have been a rock for everyone on our small staff, and I am beyond grateful for all the work you have done this summer to make sure we are operational from our new office.
Thank you to my predecessor, Natalie Downie for sticking around to help me as I step into the Editor-in-Chief position. Without you I would have never discovered my love for newswriting. Thank you for not only bullying me into joining the campus newspaper, but for also sticking by my side throughout the experience.
Thank you, Woodward Printing, for the patience and flexibility with us. I am super excited to work with you in a larger capacity this upcoming academic year.
Finally, thank you to everyone who continues to read the Exponent. Thank you to students, staff, alumni and the larger Platteville community for continuously supporting your local student newspaper. We have a lot of amazing content we cannot wait to share with you.
Best,
Kaz Bresnan
