I used to race against the street lights down Main Street
The light automatically clicking on as the sun sets
And I would run and scream down the street
With the joy and wonder of a childhood summer
My friends and I would race against the light
Hoping to beat lights
I knew I would never win the race
I knew the last light would turn on
Long before I get to the end of the street
But I would always run
I would always try
I would always laugh
I think of that every morning as I drive to work
Hearing the echoes of the laughter
As I watch the lights click on as the sun rises
I miss those nights and think about them often
But now I race against the morning light
