When the creator of UW-Platteville Confessions created the page in Feb. 2013, he chose to keep his identity a secret and go by Batman. On Nov. 12, 2014, Batman revealed his identity.

Batman is better known as Ryan Kuster, a senior agricultural business major from Potosi.

Aside from monitoring the UW-Platteville Confessions page, Kuster has two other jobs. He partnered with a YouTube channel called How Farms Work after he graduated high school and also has his own photography business called Saturn Photography.

So, what made Batman reveal his identity after nearly two years?

Q: What inspired you to create the confessions page?

A: “I saw that other colleges had confessions pages so I tried looking one up for our school and I didn’t see one, even though there actually was one. So, I just made mine and after a while the other one just disappeared and this one took off.”

Q: Why did you decide to keep your identity a secret?

A: “I kept my identity a secret so that when it got a little bit bigger I wouldn’t be influenced by anyone I knew, so no one could message me or text me and say ‘Hey, could you post that for me?’”

Q: Why did you choose to go by Batman?

A: “One of my friends might have referenced it because of how I watch over the submissions.”

Q: Did you expect the page to become so popular?

A: “No, not at first. After I got a few thousand likes I knew that it would keep growing every year because the new freshman like it so it gets more likes every year.”

Q: How has it felt to have so many people try to figure out who you are?

A: “Its been fun having people post on the page and ask about who I am.”

Q: Can you see the name of the person who submits a confession?

A: “Only under one condition, if they include their actual name and email. I’ve put out warnings saying, ‘You don’t have to include your real name’ but the majority of them do.”

Q: What is it like when you see that person on campus and know what their secret is?

A: “It’s kind of interesting because there have been quite a few things that have been submitted in the past that were pretty ‘iffy’ and then I see them. But I don’t go around saying ’This person did this.’ I don’t open up about it. I’m sure that some people who do know me and submitted a confession are like ‘Oh no!’”

Q: What has been your favorite part of running the page?

A: “It’s a lot of fun seeing stuff that people post. There’s a lot of stuff that gets submitted that isn’t put on the page.”

Q: What has been the most stressful part?

A: “Dealing with the people who were negative about it, but that’s not really a concern anymore. I was also worried that people were going to find out who I am, then the environment would change when people saw me.”

Q: Why did you decide to reveal your identity?

A: “A few months ago we were nearing 10 thousand likes and I decided to do something special for it, and it’s pretty close to graduation. I was originally planning on waiting until after graduation but I decided against it because after school gets out in spring, less people watch the page so less people would see it.”

Q: Will you still run the page after you graduate?

A: “Since I’m going to be close to Platteville I might stick with it, but I have a moderator lined up who wants to do it. I’ll probably stay in control so that there is a good quality control on it.”

Q: Does anyone help you run the page?

A: “I have one person helping me. My moderator now, Robin, does a really good job because he’s always watching it.”

Q: Is Robin going to reveal his identity?

A: “Now, no. He can do that when he chooses. It’s entirely up to him.”
