Melcher Hall faculty members hosted Melcher Madness, an annual three-on-three basketball tournament that aims to raise money for a non-profit organization, April 18. The $240 raised went to the Wounded Warrior Project.
The Wounded Warrior Project is an organization that was created to assist veterans that were injured in the war that followed the September 11 attacks.
“Each residence hall has to put on a community service activity each year, so Melcher Hall staff decided to continue the long-standing tradition of Melcher Madness,” Resident Director of Melcher Hall James Zarling said.
The fundraiser is more than just raising money for Melcher Hall, it’s about becoming a more well-rounded person outside of the classroom.
“It is important that we do this fundraiser because it teaches students that there is more to college than classes and jobs,” Melcher Hall Resident Assistant Jakob Baertschi said. “It teaches students to care about the greater community.”
The tradition is as important to the players as it is for the people who organized it.
“I keep coming back each year to support the fundraiser because it’s for a good cause and I get to play basketball with my friends,” business administration major Luke Stotmeister, said.
