Comedians come to university campus
Comedians Jose Barriendos and Brian O’Sullivan came to the Markee Pioneer Student Center on Nov. 7 and brought with them a multitude of jokes. Barriendos took the stage first and told humorous stories about him and his mom, as well as their observations of Americans from the viewpoint of foreigners. One of the first things he noticed was a distinct lack of Latinos in the audience, which he said limited his options because he had some jokes only Latinos would understand. Jose performed for one hour and was very well received by the audience.
O’Sullivan then walked on stage carrying a guitar and announced he was a “Singing comedian”. O’Sullivan performed various tunes in which he told clever pickup lines and gave criticism of Taylor Swift. One of the bits that got the most laughs was when he created a “Mad Lib” song using input from the audience. O’Sullivan’s other songs included a nostalgic song about the 90s as well as a song satirizing high school romance.
In a post-performance interview, the comedians discussed what inspires them. Barriendos explained he uses mostly observational humor. O’Sullivan, by contrast, says his jokes are inspired by pop culture.
The next Stand Up Saturday is Dec. 5 in the Markee Pioneer Student Center featuring Jessi Campbell at 8 p.m.
