Late night preview
Campus Programming and Relations will be hosting the 7th annual Late Night at the Markee. On April 29th starting at 11 p.m. students will get the chance to have some stress relieving fun before finals week. Students can look forward to events such as a three-lane bungee inflatable, laser tag, a mechanical bull, balloon artists and more. Since the event goes until 2 a.m., Dining Services will be giving out free drinks like Surge, Monster and Vita ICE to help keep students energized.
“We don’t want to redo the same things. We focus on things from last year and go on feedback,” sophomore business administration major and event coordinator for CPR Abbey Carlson said.
The mechanical bull is new to Late Night this year and is predicted to be the most popular event because of its popularity during Welcome Weekend. Another event that is expected to be quite popular is laser tag.
“We always try to adapt to what students want to do,” Involvement Coordinator Brian Yingst said. “We focused on trying to get something where students don’t have to spend a lot of time if they don’t want to, but there’s going to be enough entertainment if they’d like to take the whole night to spend a lot of time.”
Late Night is beneficial to students because it offers them the chance to relieve their stress and take a break from the group projects, exams and their personal lives. It’s also one of the last times to be with new friends before finals week begins and people go home for the summer.
“I go to this event for a good time and to hang out with my friends one last time before they graduate,” sophomore theater major Megan Conroy said. “I’m looking forward to the mechanical bull and spending time with friends.”
With the estimated 2,000 people that will be attending this event, it’s recommended that students get their wristband ahead of time by bringing their student ID to the Information Desk in the MPSC so that they can avoid waiting in lines.
New this year things are Fast Passes. The students that have fast passes will be able to skip the lines on various events three times. Only 13 of these passes were made and have been handed out during other events on campus.
Planning for Late Night begins in the fall semester shortly after Welcome Weekend is done. A committee gets together and begins brainstorming on what was successful during last year’s Late Night and what was successful during Welcome Weekend.
