Movie Review: “Madame Web”

“Madame Web” was released in theaters on Feb. 14 and is the most recent film from Sony’s line of movies related to Spider-Man, with the previous being “Morbius,” released back in 2022.
To put it bluntly, this is a movie that would be better viewed if inebriated. The acting is horrible; it feels as though the first take was used for every scene.
The dialogue reads like the result of a ChatGPT prompt, and the way in which it is delivered is painfully dry almost to the point of hilarity, which may be the only upside of this movie.
The way in which many of the scenes were edited and shot is so unhinged and directionless that its pacing feels comparable to that of a dream. The main villain of this movie is also hilariously poorly executed, with his dialogue being delivered extremely monotonously and often booming over most other sounds in the scene, seeming as though it was dubbed over.
The general premise of the movie had some interesting ideas, and maybe could have made for a decent movie if done correctly, but any half-way decent plot idea has been completely obliterated by the poor execution of almost every aspect of the movie.
Choices made by certain characters are also often nonsensical and seem to have happened only to progress the plot with no regard to whether they made sense not just for the character to have done, but for any sane human being to have done.
The final act of this film is particularly insane, with so many plot conveniences present that it feels as though the script was written in less than a month. The pacing is also bizarre, with certain scenes being paced so quickly it induces mental whiplash.
As mentioned previously, this movie’s only upside is how unintentionally hilarious it is. It also runs under two hours, something few Marvel movies can boast, so at the very least it is a mercifully short movie for superhero movie standards. It provides entertainment in many places where it does not intend to, but is still entertaining, nonetheless.
Rating: 2/10
