Cinnamon Rolls Dough:
2 ¾ cup flour
¼ cup granulated sugar
½ tsp salt
3 Tbsp butter
1 packet of instant yeast
1 large egg
Filling:
3 Tbsp butter
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
Cream Cheese Icing:
4 oz cream cheese – softened to room temperature
2 Tbsp butter
2/3 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Combine milk and butter in a bowl. Microwave to heat up the mixture until it is warm to the touch, then add the yeast.
2. Combine the mixture with flour, sugar, salt and egg. Mix until the dough forms
3. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead it for 3-5 minutes. Let the dough rest for 5 minutes.
4. Roll out the dough on a flat surface to your desired thickness. Remember that the thickness rolled out to will be how thick the bread of the cinnamon roll will be.
5. Spread the softened butter on top of the rolled-out dough. Then mix the cinnamon and brown sugar. Sprinkle that mixture over the dough and butter. Then roll up the dough to make a log. Cut this log into about 10-12 rolls and place in a lightly greased pan.
6. Cover the pan with plastic wrap, aluminum foil, or a towel. Place in a warm spot and allow the rolls to rise. Usually it will take around 60-90 minutes, or until the rolls are double in size.
7. After the rolls have risen, preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake the rolls for 24-27 minutes or until lightly browned. If it seems like the tops are getting brown too quickly, place aluminum foil on top. Remove pan from oven when complete and allow rolls to cool.
8. Use a fork or a whisk to mix the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and completely combined. Spread icing over rolls.
