Punk/indie rock band Mannequin P– released their third studio album, “Patience,” in June of 2019, seemingly going under the radar of many larger music-oriented publications—much unlike their following release “I Got Heaven.”
Despite it having gone somewhat unnoticed, “Patience” is arguably their best work. Coming in at only 25 minutes, it wastes absolutely no time. The title track starts the album off with a sort of immediate, confrontational energy that the album maintains even when in more sonically depressive moods.
Speaking of which, the album is not afraid to delve into some darker territories from time to time, such as “Fear/+/Desire” dealing with abuse in such a poignant, stark manner that it almost makes it hard to listen to, however melodic it may.
It makes sure to keep a balance, though, as other tracks like “Who You Are” and “In Love Again” are infectiously fun and uplifting, whereas others such as “F.U.W.A.C.” are just outright headbangers. Marisa Dabice’s vocals are also incredible with her being able to cover a fairly wide range of styles, all the way from soft singing to hardcore screamed vocals.
Despite its sonic diversity mixed with such a short runtime, “Patience” never feels rushed nor whiplash-inducing. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions that ultimately results in one of the most exciting experiences to have hit the punk scene in a while.
