Education Abroad Fair, informative

The Education Abroad Fair, held in the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Markee Pioneer Student Center, offered information on over 700 programs in more than 50 countries that include over 200 areas of study.

The fair was open to students from all majors and levels of study. Faculty, staff and academic advisors were also invited to attend and learn about the program options.

Students had the chance to learn more about program options, courses they can take abroad, travel tips, scholarships and grant opportunities. Participants could also enter a raffle to win a free U.S. Passport.

Kyle Schmidt, senior computer science major experienced studied abroad in Newcastle, Australia. “I enjoyed meeting all the different people, not only locals but people from different countries were there,” Schmidt said.

One tip that Schmidt suggested was to save up money beforehand in order to travel around and experience the different activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling and four-wheeling.

Students who worked at the fair informed attendees about their personal experiences studying abroad. Videos and pictures of abroad experiences were shown on projection screens and some booths had food samples from the different countries.

Ian Yenter, fifth year senior mechanical engineering major, struggled to explain his experience. “It’s hard to put into words, I had a five month vacation to absorb their culture,” said Yenter.

Walking out of the fair, Cassie Roach, freshman mathematics secondary education major, said she received a lot of information about studying abroad. “It was a great opportunity,” said Roach.
