The Horticulture club sold 122 succulents during their succulent sale at the Markee Pioneer Student Center from
April 4 through April 7. The Horticulture club’s succulent
table was in the crossroads of the daily foot-traffic across from the Student Center help desk.

The succulents, varying in textures, stem structures and distinct leaf sizes, sat neatly in rows inside small paper planters. The plants were still very small at purchase and easy to carry between classes.

House plant enthusiasts took advantage of the vast assortment of succulents the Horticulture club made available for purchase to add variety to their indoor plant collections. Some of the common names for the succulents they had for sale were the aloe vera plant, jade plant and panda plant.

Audrey Pelikan, the Horticulture club president and UW-Platteville Agriculture ambassador, said that the succulent sale will support the club’s funding. The club’s funding goes toward inviting guest speakers, attending local tours and securing future plant sale funding.

Additionally, the sale helps support the Horticulture club “attend the National Collegiate Landscape competition,” said Pelikan. It is an event “where students compete with other schools, attend job fairs and learn about Horticulture in different regions of the U.S.”

The Horticulture club’s plant sales help the club participate in opportunities that will shape the knowledge and expertise of future agriculturists. The Horticulture club is currently preparing for their annual Spring Plant Sale in the Pioneer Tower parking lot. The Spring Plant Sale will run from May 4 through May 6 at 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on May 7 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. There will be a variety of summer plants available, including vegetables and annual flowers. Succulents will be available at this sale as well.
