Chicago declines; Shields to stay
University of Wisconsin-Platteville chancellor Dennis J. Shields was not selected as Chicago State University’s president
On Oct. 8 the CSU Board of Trustees met and unanimously determined that Thomas J. Calhoun will become the 22nd president of the university, according to the institution’s website.
The CSU Search Committee determined Shields as a top three candidate for the position and on Sept. 14 Shields made a visit to CSU’s campus, where he interacted with students and staff.
Shields entered his fifth year as chancellor in September and is the fourth chief executive of UW-Platteville.
Prior to his elected presidency position at CSU, Calhoun was Vice President of Enrollment Management at North Alabama University. The 22-member search committee that elected Calhoun included members of the university faculty, staff, administration, students, alumni and community members. Shields was unavailable for comments prior to publication.
