University of Wisconin-Platteville prepares to celebrate homecoming
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville will be hosting its annual Homecoming week from Sept. 30 through Oct. 6. Students, staff, alumni and community members are welcome to participate in the numerous activities that are suited for all ages. This year’s theme is “The Future is Ours.”
Weekday homecoming events include a banner ceremony , “Yell Contest” during a volleyball game on Bo Ryan Court in Williams Fieldhouse and the variety show at the UW-Platteville Center for the Arts. A full list of activities and times can be found on a new Homecoming website.
On Friday, Oct. 5, the house decoration presentation and the University Awards and Recognition Ceremony will happen between 4-6 p.m. The ceremony will honor Distinguished and Outstanding Alumni Award recipients and members from the three colleges for their successes.
The annual Homecoming parade will take place on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. All are encouraged to grab a spot on the curb of Main Street to enjoy the floats and marching bands. There will also be an Alumni Association Parade Tent at 385 West Main Street where alumni can catch up with former classmates and professors while enjoying hot chocolate, cider, coffee and donuts.
After the parade, the Homecoming football game against UW-River Falls will begin at 2 p.m. The Pioneer football team has been playing a Homecoming game every year since 1924. The Homecoming celebration will conclude at 9 p.m. with the annual lighting of the “M.” The torch that will light the world’s largest “M” will be carried by runners beginning at Ullsvik Hall at 7:45 p.m. Attendees can begin gathering for the event at 8 p.m. at 6935 Moundview Road.
