Donald Trump has visited Wisconsin several times in the past two weeks with one of the visits being in Prairie Du Chien, WI.
The rally was held in the Prairie Du Chein High School Art Center, after staffing concerns moved them from a one-lane municipal airport. There were discussions of moving it to the Hoffman Hall, which has better seating, but thiswas shot down because it was too close the Correctional Institution.
Trump fans lined up right after the school day ended hoping to get good seats in the auditorium to listen to Trump speak the next day. Trump mainly went to discuss immigration after the arrest of Alejandro Jose Coronel Zarate, an immigrant who was charged with second-degree sexual assault/use of force and child abuse, two counts of battery, one count of strangulation and one count of disorderly conduct a month earlier after assaulting a local woman and her child.
Zarate is suspected of having ties to a Venezuela gang, and Prairie Du Chien Police are working with ICE for the next steps in the investigation. Zarate has had several warrants out for his arrest but has not been in custody until recently. Republican politicians say it is because of “sanctuary city” policy, but Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett disagrees. Barrett argues that this is just “an unsubstantiated and distasteful attempt to gather votes in a battleground state for the upcoming presidential election.”
“And to save any follow up inquiries, we have not taken reports of people eating cats or dogs,” Barrett added.
However, immigration was not all Trump talked about. He came to also throw is support behind several other Wisconsin Candidates like Rep. Derrick Van Orden who has family in Prairie Du Chien. Trump also spoke about drugs and criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for her stances on immigration.
