On Oct. 27, 2025, President Donald Trump was briefly met by reporters as he boarded an Air Force One flight between Malaysia and Tokyo for the second stop of his three-nation tour of Asia. When asked by one reporter if he would consider running as vice president in the 2028 election cycle, Trump stated he could technically run as VP, but though it would be “too cute.”
While Trump has not officially committed to running as president in 2028, he has hinted at this with his iconic red hats, now bearing “Trump 2028” in bold white lettering. As he was further questioned about the potential of a third presidential term, Trump stated: “I would love to do it. I have my best numbers yet.” Where Trump only alludes to a third term, others are not so ambiguous to this possibility: “Trump is going to be president in ’28, and people ought to just get accommodated with that,” said Steve Bannon of the War Room Podcast. Bannon also served briefly as Trump’s White House chief strategist in his first term as president. Bannon would continue to say “At the appropriate time, we’ll lay out what the plan is. But there is a plan.”
While many scholars rebuke Bannon’s statement due to its unconstitutional nature, this proclamation has also been met with reactions of both dread and excitement from many citizens.
