Pioneers win at UW-La Crosse
The Pioneers men’s basketball team defeated the Unviersity of Wisconsin-La Crosse 60-58 in the first round of the WIAC Championship Tournament on Tuesday. Junior center Chas Cross led the team with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard Jim Stocki added 15 points and 10 rebounds. UW-La Crosse was led by sophomore Trent Schmidt 13 points and senior Lucas Morrisey with 16 rebounds. Full game coverage will be in the Exponent Feb. 28.
Wrestling places fourth in WIAC
The Pioneers wrestling team took fourth place at the WIAC Championships Saturday. Chris Walter’s squad entered the match in the fifth seed and opened the meet with a 23-22 win over fourth-seeded Unviersity of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The team then lost to top seed University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 42-7, followed by a 28-9 win over University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. In the third-place match, the Pioneers fell to University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 35-7. Pioneer freshmen Cole Ferguson (125 lbs) and Mason Bohm (133 lbs) went 3-1 in the tournament,.
Cross wins scoring, rebounding title
Pioneer men’s basketball center Chas Cross lead the WIAC in scoring (15.6 points per game) and rebounding (8.2 rebounds per game) in the 2012-2013 season. Cross had a regular season-high 22 points in both games against University of Wisconsin-Superior Jan. 5 and 19, and posted a season-high 15 rebounds in the season finale against University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Baseball, softball set to return to field
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball and softball teams are making their final preseason preparations for the start of their respective seasons. Eric Frese’s Pioneer baseball team will begin their season with a trip to St. Louis, Miss. for three games, and Lee Negrelli’s Pioneer softball team will start their schedule with four games in Memphis, Tenn.

Men cruise over Blugolds 76-65
The Pioneer men’s basketball team beat the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds 76-65 in their regular season finale Feb. 13.
In the first half, sophomore forward Jake Manning lead the team with 12 points, going 5-6 on field goals.
Jim Stocki, sophomore guard, added eight points onto the board for the Pioneers, giving them a 39-26 halftime lead.
In the second half, UW-Platteville’s junior center Chas Cross led the team by setting a career record with 15 rebounds. Cross also netted 12 points in the half.
The Pioneers swept the season series against the Blugolds, as they picked up a 56-48 home win over UW-Eau Claire Dec. 4.
The UW-Platteville team will travel to fourth-seeded University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for the WIAC tournament quarterfinals on Feb. 19.
The teams split their season series this year, with the home team winning both. The Eagles won Jan. 3 in La Crosse 65-53 and the Pioneers won Feb. 9 on Bo Ryan Court 77-70.
