Four University of Wisconsin-Platteville student-athletes won all All-American awards at the NCAA Division-III Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend. The event on Friday and Saturday was hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
In the women’s 800-meter run, the lone female representing UW-Platteville, senior Deidre Dillman, received an All-American award, posting a time of 2:12 in the finals. Dillman placed third in the event, gaining 6 points for UW-Platteville.
Senior Aaron Hrubes ran the 60-meter dash in 6.935 seconds, placing tenth in the preliminaries, but he did not move on to compete in the finals.
Ian LaMere, the only freshman on UW-Platteville’s team, placed fifth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:33 and won an All-American award.
“(LaMere) ran extremely well, with a fast time,” head coach Chris Rotzenberg said. “He earned (the All-American).”
After placing first in the preliminary run of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.09, TJ Valley received an All-American award and placed sixth in the event with a time of 8.23.
Senior pole vaulter Chas Spangenberg vaulted 16 ½. He placed seventh and received an All-American award.
UW-Platteville’s WIAC foes had a strong showing at the Championships as well. University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the women’s side, and its men’s team placed second. University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s men’s team placed first, and its women placed third.
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater placed third and fourth on the men’s side, respectively.
The Pioneer men’s and women’s track teams will look to climb into those high rankings as the outdoor track season begins March 22 at Washington University.
