The Pioneer softball team was swept Saturday by University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
In the first game, senior third baseman Colleen Lowe gave the Pioneers an early lead on the strength of her home run to dead center. After the fifth inning, the Pioneers held a 2-1 lead. The Eagles fired back in the sixth however, scoring four runs on five hits. The Pioneers fell 7-3. Senior pitcher Melissa Anderson suffered the loss, her sixth of the year.
In game two, a 9-4 Pioneer loss, the Pioneers fell behind early, down 5-0 after the fourth inning. The Pioneers responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, powered by back-to-back RBI doubles by Lowe and freshman designated player Carley Rote. The Eagles scored one run in the eighth and three runs in the ninth to expand the lead.
The Pioneers (7-9, 2-4 WIAC) play double headers today at Coe College and Saturday and Sunday at University of Wisconsin-Superior; however, the games at UW-Superior may be moved to Platteville due to weather.
