The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team (3-3-3, 1-1 WIAC) has had an up-and-down start to the season, continuing last week after defeating No. 19 Luther 2-1 Sept. 18.
The team fell to the University of Wisconsin-Superior 1-0 on Saturday and defeated Finlandia 7-0 on Sunday.
Against Luther on the road, the Pioneers and Norse were deadlocked after 45 minutes of play.
Pioneer junior Stephen Hall scored his first goal of 2013 in the 64th minute off an assist from freshman Keith Baerwald to make the score 1-0.
Senior Michael Prudisch added an unassisted goal in the 77th minute to put the match away for good.
The Pioneers failed to keep the momentum going against the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
However, as the offense sputtered to its fifth, scoreless showing this season, senior goalkeeper Ian Christensen held off the Yellowjackets until the 75th minute when Brian Grand scored off a corner-kick assist.
The match against Finlandia saw the Pioneers explode for seven goals, two apiece from Baerwald and junior Hunter McMahon.
Finlandia was smothered by the Pioneers’ attack, allowing 38 total shots.
UW-Platteville returns to the home pitch this Sunday for an out-of-conference showdown with St. Norbert at 2 p.m.
