Milio’s Athlete of the Week: Ashton Hoeppner
How old were you when you started playing softball?
I have been playing softball since I was in second grade and started pitching when I was in sixth grade.
Who inspired you to compete in softball?
My biggest influence in playing softball was definitely my dad. He played baseball and was a baseball coach for many years, so I was always around the sport growing up. From there, my high school coaches taught me how to appreciate and love the game, which is what drove me to continue to play in college.
Is competing in college more difficult than it was before you came here?
College softball is very different in comparison to high school. Everything about the game becomes more challenging. As a pitcher, I have seen how important staying ahead in the count and mixing up different pitches are.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I will still be working towards a career in the medical field. I am hoping to go on to physician’s assistant school after graduating from UW-Platteville.
