Pioneer soccer ties with Dominican University
Fountain and Hernandez lead UW-Platteville men’s soccer in scoring against the Stars
University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneer’s men soccer team played Dominican University this past weekend. The final score ended with a tie of 2-2.
The first half of the game was a battle between the two teams to gain possession of the ball. Players took shots towards the goal but were blocked by the goalies. The score in the first half was 0-0.
In the second half of the game, Teon Fountain scored the first goal, with an assist from Logan Rinderknect. Braxton Rottinghaus kicked a goal, making the score 2-0. Two minutes later, Dominican University’s Nicolo Vitale scored the first point.
At 81:26 in the game, Jonathan Hernandez, assisted by Nicolo Vitale and Dennis Soldo, tied the game with the score being 2-2. The game went into overtime.
Overtime consisted of four corner kicks by UW-Platteville’s Nick Hoklas. An attempt to score was made by UW-Platteville’s Brendan Carr, but it was blocked by the opposing team’s goalie, Brendon Martin. Both teams were fouled and neither team scored, which led to a second overtime.
In overtime period two, a yellow card was received by Domnican University’s Issac Perez and their coach due to him kicking a ball out of the player’s way. A corner kick was attempted by UW-Platteville’s Brad Strobel but both teams were fouled after the play.
The Pioneer’s had seventeen shots, ten of them on goal, five saves, eight fouls, eleven corner kicks and no offsides.
The game leaders for were Logan Rinderknect and Nate Miller.
The final score was 2-2, leaving the UW-Platteville Men’s Soccer team with eight wins, one loss and two ties for the Fall 2018 season.
Their next home game will be at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium on Thursday Oct. 18, at 7:00 pm against Augustana.
