ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Name: Catt Moeller
Hometown: Abrams, WI
Year: Freshman
Major: Biology; Zoology emphasis
Sport: Track and Field
How old were you when you started playing this sport?
I started track my junior year of high school, so I was 16 (I was a year ahead).
What events do you compete in?
I only pole vault. It’s hard to focus on more than one field event in college because each takes a lot of time and effort.
What do you do to prepare yourself for the event(s)?
We train five days a week, usually two of those are vaulting days with the rest being workouts and/or drills. It helps me a lot to visualize my vault before I go, and I try to focus on one thing at a time until I can do it without thinking about it.
What advice do you have for incoming freshman who want to get involved in sports?
Any collegiate sport takes up a lot of time, so make sure you’re prepared to dedicate a substantial amount of time out of your week and weekends. I definitely recommend joining a sport, especially track! Our team is very close-knit like a big family and it’s just a lot of fun and definitely worth the time and effort put in!
