Soccer team stampedes Coe, nets No. 19 ranking

he Pioneer men’s soccer team (10-1-1) steam-rolled over Coe College, winning 8-0 Sept. 27.

Seven different players contributed goals to the win.

Pioneer freshman Mbodje Sarr was named WIAC Offensive Player of the Week for his goal and assist in the contest.

Junior Michael Prudisch has buoyed the Pioneer defense of late, and also received recognition as WIAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Freshmen midfielder Austin Klemm, who led the team with two goals, said he felt his team played well collectively.

“Team chemistry is really starting to mesh and as a unit we have to continue to push forward,” Klemm said.

Senior midfielder Brandon Chmiel scored the team’s first goal 18 minutes into the game and a minute later another goal was scored by Hunter McMahon, quickly giving the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.

Due to the effort of the Pioneers’ defense, Coe only had one shot attempt for the entire game, and had few possessions in Pioneer territory.

.“This game is just adding momentum to the team,” Sarr said. “Players are really beginning to understand their roles and timing is starting to flow smoothly.”

The Pioneers had a sense of urgency and tenacity throughout the game.

Head coach Enzo Fuschino stated that this was somewhat of a payback game, as Coe had beaten the Pioneers in the season opening game last year.

The Pioneers are rolling and have shown poise in tight contests, going 1-1 in their two overtime games.

The men’s team will play at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium next Oct. 17 against Luther College at 7 p.m.
