Kunkel, Poser pace Pioneers at WIAC

niversity of Wisconsin-Platteville’s top runners Sam Poser and Danielle Kunkel carried the Pioneer cross country teams to top-six finishes at the WIAC Championships Nov. 2.

 

Kunkel, a UW-Platteville senior, led the women’s team to a sixth place finish with her individual finish of second place at 22:08.

 

Sophomore Kiera Depies earned second team all-WIAC honors, finishing in 13th at a time of 22:55.

 

Running equally well this weekend, the men scored a team point total of 138 points, taking fifth as a team.

 

Poser, a junior from Brookfield, finished third overall with a time of 24:45.

 

Junior Joel Walden finished 12th overall and second on the Pioneers by running a time of 25 minutes, while junior Matt Smaga took the 20th spot overall, finishing in 25:20.

 

The Pioneers look to rest this weekend in order to gear up for their Midwest Regional meet on Nov. 16.

 

The meet is hosted by Augustana College (Ill.) and will be ran at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.
