Women’s soccer drops seven straight

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. –The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers put up a good fight against the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils but ultimately fell short. UW-Stout kept the ball at the very beginning, but that did not stop the Pioneers from fighting for possession. The Blue Devils scored their first goal at 25:32 in the first half.

“We came out strong, giving Stout a battle playing the game we know how to play,” said Yamilex Jaramillo, junior starting forward for the Pioneers.

UW-Stout scored their second goal at the 11:30 mark, making the score 2-0 at halftime. In the second half both teams came out aggressive. The Blue Devils ended up edging out the Pioneers when they scored their third goal at around 26 minutes.

“I think as a team we had good moments, but we can’t seem to put together a whole 90 minutes but we have some potential,” said junior Katelyn Winther, defensive player.

The Pioneers still fought hard, at the 12:15 mark junior Emily Phillips scored with a header with an assist from freshmen Morgan Phillips.

“I think we played pretty well, I think we could’ve possessed it a little better but overall we did all right,” said freshmen midfielder Kenzie Bradley.

The game ended 3-1, with UW-Stout getting the win. The loss doesn’t deter the Pioneers, who, according to Jaramillo, have faith that they will come back from their seventh consecutive defeat.

“After UW-Stout’s first goal, the team began to struggle in finding feet and keeping possession, which is what killed us in the end”, said Jaramillo. “With two main players out on injuries for the season, it’s been difficult to pick the team up and keep our heads up but we are hoping to get over this slump by getting a win in the upcoming game.”
