Pioneers triumph in homecoming game against Falcons

University of Wisconsin-Platteville rally to continue three game win streak

At this year’s homecoming game, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneer’s football team went up against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls’ Falcons. Sean Studer scored the first touchdown with a 9-yard run, and Michael Pratl kicked a field goal, ending the first quarter with a 7-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Colin Schuetz had a 1-yard run, then another field goal by Pratl (14-0), but the Falcons added to the score board with a six play drive, a 26 yard pass and another good kick. Studer scored with a 16-yard run and yet another good kick by Pratl. The Falcon’s scored again, but the kick was blocked. As the first half came to a close, the Pioneer’s Samuel Herkert kicked a 32-yard field goal, finishing the half with an 11-point lead.

In the third quarter, both teams fought hard for the lead. The Falcons added 7 points to the scoreboard with a touchdown and a 2-point conversion. The game was almost tied for the rest of the third quarter, but Pioneer’s Mark Johnson caught an 80-yard pass from Collin Schuetz and scored a touchdown alongside another kick from Pratl. This ended the quarter with a score of 31-21.

The final quarter consisted of two more touchdowns by the Pioneers and a touchdown by the Falcons. With the final score of the game being 52-27, the Pioneer’s won this year’s homecoming game. The audience cheered despite the weather being chilly.
