Pioneers deliver big blowout to the Thomas More University Saints

On Saturday the UW- Platteville football team hosted the Thomas More University Saints from Crestville Hill, KY. The game resulted in a one- sided blowout by the home team, finishing with a score of 41-10 and improving their season record to 2-0.

The Pioneers started off hot, with senior Travis Hofslein recovering a fumble on a punt at the Saint’s 8-yard line in the first quarter. Two plays later, Pioneers’ junior quarterback Colin Schuetz ran the ball into the end zone for the first score of the game.

On the next drive by the Pioneers, Schuetz threw an 8-yard touchdown to junior Donald Allender to put them at 14-0 with 2:42 left in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Schuetz led an 80-yard, seven-play drive that ended with a 25-yard touchdown pass, again to Allender.
Just three minutes later, after another failed drive
by the Saints, Pioneer senior running back Wyatt Thompson took a 36-yard run to score, extending their lead to 28-0

With minutes left in the first half, senior Jordan Zilbar made a big play on defense, with a tackle for a six-yard loss on a fourth- and-1-try by the Saints on their own 41-yard line.
On the ensuing Pioneer drive, Schuetz complete a 24-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Tyler Knigge, extending the Pioneer’s lead to 34-0 after a missed extra point attempt.

In the second half, the Saints received the kickoff with a good drive, finally getting on the scoreboard with a 17-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Justin Post to Da’Marco Canty. However, any hope for a potential comeback by
the Saints was dashed with the ensuing Pioneer drive when Allender ran for his third score of the day from the two-yard line, bringing the score to 41-7.

In the fourth quarter, the Saints’ kicker Alex Haley completed a 29-yard field goal, which brought the final score to 41-10

On offense, quarterback Colin Schuetz had a solid game, passing 18 for 27 with 228 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Wyatt Thompson had 14 carries for 96 yards and a touchdown, and wide receiver Tyler Knigge caught six receptions, gaining 99 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, senior safety Tyler Reinhardt had a team-leading ten tackles

on the day. Senior defensive back Walter Ollie made six tackles, had one sack and broke up two passes. The defense totaled four forced fumbles against the Saints, recovering three of them.

The UW-Platteville football team will have their first away game this week at Lakeland University in Plymouth, WI on Saturday, September 28 at 6p.m. The game will be held at Taylor Memorial Field.
