CPR puts spring twist on bingo

Held in the Markee Pioneer Student Center, students get excited for Spring Break while playing a spin off game of bingo. Attendees were able to win vacation themed prizes while participating in the game Springo.

On March 4, dozens of students from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville gathered in the lower level of the Markee Pioneer Student Center to play an in-depth game of Springo, hosted by Campus Programming and Relations.

Springo follows the same basic rules of the well-known game Bingo, but it also contains the addition of Spring Break-themed prizes.

CPR set up the event by handing out cards and chips and playing pop music, but as the game began, the music was turned off for the participants.

The winner of the first round of Springo was Emily Combs, an environmental engineering and business administration major, who was ecstatic to hear of her first-time victory.

During the course of the night, one could feel a competitive tension throughout the room, as prizes quickly started disappearing.

For example, some of the prizes handed out throughout the night were bubble wands, water bottles, spray fans, beach towels, a sun hat, a glow in the dark Frisbee, a soccer ball and two coolers.

Although some students have the opportunity to travel to a warmer destination for Spring Break, biology major Chelse Lumzy mentioned that she will be going somewhere a little colder than Wisconsin for break.

Various games of Springo took place throughout the night, including double bingo, four corners and rounds, where participants were able to create various shapes and letters such as a kite, a diamond, the letter “T” and the letter “H.”

“This was the first time I worked this event. I wasn’t sure how many people to expect, but there was a pretty good turnout,” CPR member Masees Mesdjian said.

Springo will become a regular event for Campus Programming and Relations and continue to offer a chance for students to win prizes and enjoy more campus activities before Spring Break.
