The UW-Platteville Department of Performing and Visual Arts held its Student Honors Recital on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. at Brodbeck Concert Hall in the Center for the Arts. The recital showcased seven students who performed in the Fall 2022 jury performance examinations.

“The hours of practice leading up to this event were what helped me to feel less nervous,” Jordan Larson- Sell, one of the performers said. “Obviously, I was nervous, but I knew that my work would pay off, and I would be satisfied with whatever happened on stage.” Each student practiced for long hours in their free time in preparation for the recital.

Their hard work paid off as the event brought in over 100 attendees, made up of families, friends, instructors and Platteville community members who filled the concert hall. They all raved about the students’ performances in the lobby following the recital.

Ella Bruner, a choral education major, said, “It is so important to come out and support fellow students at events like this because we can inspire one another to push harder in our studies.”

This sentiment was echoed among the crowd of musicians in attendance. Freshman music major= Meghan Conley added, “These types of events help to show the work of those who might be overlooked otherwise.”

“I am beyond proud of the work these students put in,” instructor Rebekah Demaree commented. She was glad that so many people were there to witness the dedication of these musicians and to celebrate their accomplishments alongside them.

The next performances for the Department of Performing and Visual Arts are the Jazz Festival Concert on Friday, March. 3 at 7 p.m. and the Orchestra and Mixed Choirs Concert on Sunday, March 5 at 3 p.m. in the Brodbeck Concert Hall, Center for the Arts.
